Tall Vase No. 4

Shaped by hand in the hills of northern Tunisia, this tall vessel carries the quiet authority of a form that has existed for centuries. The clay is unglazed, finished with natural earth pigments that leave their mark unpredictably, the blue and rust passages on this piece are unrepeatable, the result of fire and mineral, not intention.

The narrow neck and cylindrical body make it equally suited to a single stem or to standing alone. It does not need to hold anything to hold your attention.The fine cracking you see across the surface is inherent to the Sejnane process, a natural result of the clay drying and firing without industrial control. It is not a flaw. It is the record of how the piece was made.
